Double-Stage Product Structure

WPEDA double speed worm gearbox internal structure

The WPE double-stage housing contains two complete worm gear stages in one precision-machined cast iron body, with two independent oil chambers:

■ Primary Stage (Input Side)
First worm shaft and bronze wheel — receives motor power, produces first reduction. Higher-speed, lower-torque stage optimised for input speed operating conditions.
■ Intermediate Shaft
Connects primary stage output to secondary stage input. Precision-machined, supported by C3-clearance bearings, transmits intermediate torque and speed between the two stages.
■ Secondary Stage (Output Side)
Second worm shaft and bronze wheel — lower speed, higher torque. Matched-pair manufacturing with primary stage ensures consistent inter-stage noise and efficiency throughout service life.
■ Dual Independent Oil Chambers
Two oil chambers — one per stage — each filled and monitored separately. Independent optimisation of lubrication viscosity and fill level per stage is a key advantage over two-gearbox cascade arrangements.
■ Air Vents & Oil Gauges (×2)
Two air vents and two oil gauges — one per chamber — provide independent pressure management and oil level monitoring for each stage throughout operation.
■ FC20+ Dual-Chamber Housing
Single FC20+ cast iron casting forms both chambers with no gaskets between them. Monolithic rigidity prevents inter-chamber flex that could misalign intermediate shaft bearings.

Core Features & Benefits

■ IEC Motor Flange + Double-Stage: Complete Motorised High-Ratio Drive

The WPEDA D-type IEC motor flange is integrated into the primary stage housing, providing direct motor coupling while achieving 1/200–1/900 reduction in a single cast iron unit. No adaptor plate. No coupling.

■ D-Split Housing — Access Both Stages In Situ

The D-type split housing allows in-situ access to both worm stages. Primary and secondary wheel inspection without full system teardown — an unusually valuable maintenance advantage for double-stage units.

■ IEC Motor Frame Compatibility: Full Range M8–M16

Accepts IEC frames from M8 (size 40–70, 0.12 kW) to M16 bolts (size 155–250, 5.5+ kW) — covering all standard motor sizes for slow industrial process drives.

■ Matched-Pair Worm Stages — Consistent Inter-Stage Performance

Both worm wheel sets manufactured and matched in production, preventing the torque ripple and noise variation common when two separate single-stage gearboxes are cascaded with independently sourced components.

■ 9-Ratio Selection: 1/200 to 1/900

Nine standard ratios provide precise output speed selection from 7.5 RPM (1/200) down to 1.67 RPM (1/900) from a 1,500 RPM motor — covering the full ultra-slow drive spectrum.

■ Anti-Corrosion Coating — Process Environment Grade

Epoxy primer + polyurethane topcoat resists the process chemicals, cleaning fluids, and moisture typical of the environments where WPEDA finds most of its applications.

Industry Applications — WPEDA

WP double speed cast iron worm gearboxes

OEM Slow Process Machine Drives

OEM machines requiring very slow belt or drum speeds use the WPEDA to bolt the motor direct and eliminate the adaptor/coupling from the machine BOM — reducing assembly cost and alignment error simultaneously.

Plastics & Rubber Processing

Rubber mixing mills, extruder feed drives, and plastic calenders require high torque at very low speed. WPEDA’s IEC direct mount and double-stage reduction covers this demanding combination in one unit.

Large Vessel Motorised Agitators

Large vessel agitators (5,000L+) where the motor mounts directly to the gearbox via IEC flange at 1–10 RPM output use the WPEDA for the cleanest motorised high-ratio agitator drive architecture.

Paper Mill Pulper Drives

Pulper chest drives require very low speeds (2–8 RPM) with consistency. WPEDA IEC direct mount eliminates the coupling misalignment that causes seal failures in wet paper mill environments.

Wastewater Slow Paddle Mixers

Wastewater clarifier drives, sludge paddle mixers, and aeration equipment use the WPEDA for high reduction ratio with direct motor mounting — minimising sealing surfaces in corrosive environments.

Quality Control & Certifications

Ever-power cast iron worm gearbox manufacturing facility

✎ ISO 9001:2000 Certified

Every WPEDA is manufactured, assembled, and tested under the ISO 9001:2000 quality management framework. We were among the first in our industry category to achieve this certification.

✎ CE Marking

Full CE marking confirms compliance with EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC — covering safety, design standards, and manufacturing quality for mechanical power transmission equipment including double-stage worm gearboxes.

✎ Pre-Shipment Testing (Every Unit)

Noise test (below 72 dB(A) at rated load), oil leak test (30-minute pressurisation, both chambers), torque transmission test (output torque within ±5% of rated). Failed units are reworked — not shipped.

✎ Matched-Pair Manufacturing

Both worm wheel sets for each double-stage unit are manufactured in the same production batch, ensuring tooth profile consistency between primary and secondary stages. This matched-pair quality assurance is unique to our double-stage production process.

Frequently Asked Questions — WPEDA

▶ Can the WPEDA IEC flange accommodate servo motors?
Yes. The WPEDA D-type IEC flange accepts servo motor adaptor plates. Verify servo flange dimensions (LA, LB, LC) against the WPEDA dimension table for your size combination. Note: the double-stage self-locking may conflict with servo positioning — consult our engineering team for servo applications.
▶ How are the two oil chambers filled with the motor mounted?
Fill the primary stage (motor-side) oil chamber before mounting the motor — the fill port is accessible from the top. Fill the secondary stage (output-side) via its independently located side port. Motor mounting does not obstruct either fill port in the WPEDA design.
▶ What is the typical dual-stage efficiency?
Each stage: 60–90% efficiency (ratio-dependent). Overall WPEDA efficiency = product of both stages: approximately 36–81%. This is lower than single-stage — factor into motor sizing. The catalogue input power tables already account for double-stage efficiency.
▶ What is the lowest RPM achievable from the WPEDA?
1,500 RPM input ÷ 900 ratio = 1.67 RPM output. For even lower speeds, use a VFD maintaining input above 600 RPM for adequate dual-chamber lubrication. For WPEDA S-type variants, configure VFD warm-up ramp for cold starts.
▶ Can the WPEDA housing be opened from the motor side?
Yes. D-split housing separates at the primary stage (motor side). With motor mounted on IEC flange, remove cover to access the primary worm stage — motor remains mounted. For secondary stage (output side) access, partial output shaft disassembly is required.
