Description

WPEKA Double Speed Cast Iron Worm Gearbox

Shaft-mounted drives requiring ultra-high reduction ratios far beyond the 1/60 single-stage limit have traditionally needed either a two-gearbox cascade with intermediate coupling, or a custom planetary stage. The WPEKA Double Speed Cast Iron Worm Gearbox eliminates both: K-type hollow bore output (direct shaft mount, no coupling) combined with double-stage worm reduction (1/200–1/900) in one compact cast iron housing. The result is a shaft-mounted drive delivering output torques up to 6,050 Nm at speeds as low as 1.67 RPM, with zero coupling hardware on the output side.

Double-Stage Product Structure

WPEKA double speed worm gearbox internal structure

The WPE double-stage housing contains two complete worm gear stages in one precision-machined cast iron body, with two independent oil chambers:

■ Primary Stage (Input Side)
First worm shaft and bronze wheel — receives motor power, produces first reduction. Higher-speed, lower-torque stage optimised for input speed operating conditions.
■ Intermediate Shaft
Connects primary stage output to secondary stage input. Precision-machined, supported by C3-clearance bearings, transmits intermediate torque and speed between the two stages.
■ Secondary Stage (Output Side)
Second worm shaft and bronze wheel — lower speed, higher torque. Matched-pair manufacturing with primary stage ensures consistent inter-stage noise and efficiency throughout service life.
■ Dual Independent Oil Chambers
Two oil chambers — one per stage — each filled and monitored separately. Independent optimisation of lubrication viscosity and fill level per stage is a key advantage over two-gearbox cascade arrangements.
■ Air Vents & Oil Gauges (×2)
Two air vents and two oil gauges — one per chamber — provide independent pressure management and oil level monitoring for each stage throughout operation.
■ FC20+ Dual-Chamber Housing
Single FC20+ cast iron casting forms both chambers with no gaskets between them. Monolithic rigidity prevents inter-chamber flex that could misalign intermediate shaft bearings.

Core Features & Benefits

■ K Hollow Bore + Double-Stage: Shaft-Mount Extreme-Ratio Solution

No single-stage hollow bore gearbox achieves 1/200–1/900. The WPEKA provides both in one unit: K-type hollow bore (shaft inserts directly) and two worm stages (extreme ratio). A unique combination not replicable with single-stage catalogue products.

■ Hollow Bore Diameters: 33.3–90 mm Across Size Range

K-type hollow bore scales from 33.3 mm (size 70–120 combo) to 90 mm (size 155–250 combo) — accommodating the full range of standard industrial driven shaft diameters.

■ Torque Arm Boss for Shaft-Mount Housing Restraint

WPEKA housing includes a torque arm mounting boss for shaft-mount installations where the foot-mount base is not used, providing housing restraint via the torque arm reaction point.

■ Full Double-Stage Torque Through Hollow Bore — No Derating

The hollow bore is rated for identical output torques as the solid-shaft WPEA — up to 6,050 Nm at size 155–250. No torque derating for the K hollow bore option.

■ H7 Tolerance + Hardened Bore Surface

Hollow bore machined to H7 tolerance with hardened surface, preventing bore oval-isation under sustained torque cycling and ensuring precise shaft fit throughout the service life.

■ Dual Oil Chambers with Shaft-Mount Orientation Guidelines

Installation guide provides shaft-mount orientation-specific fill quantities for both chambers, ensuring adequate worm mesh lubrication in all approved shaft-mount installation angles.

Frequently Asked Questions — WPEKA

▶ How does the WPEKA hollow bore achieve the full double-stage torque rating?
The K-type hollow bore is machined with wall thickness and surface hardness matching a solid output shaft of equivalent outer diameter. Torque transmits via GB/T 1095 standard keyway. The bore’s H7 tolerance ensures proper shaft fit. Full rated torque applies through the hollow bore provided the shaft keyway matches the specification.
▶ What are the hollow bore diameters for each WPEKA size combination?
Bore diameters: 40–70=33.3mm, 50–80=38.3mm, 60–100=43.3mm, 70–120=48.8mm, 80–135=64.4mm, 100–155=74.9mm, 120–175=85.4mm, 135–200=90.4mm, 155–250=90mm. Confirm against your shaft before ordering.
▶ Can the WPEKA be used without a foot-mount base in shaft-mount applications?
Yes. In shaft-mount applications, the hollow bore engages the driven shaft and the torque arm prevents housing rotation. Foot-mount base is not required. Ensure the torque arm bracket is properly anchored with adequate clearance from the driven shaft.
▶ Does the WPEKA self-lock in shaft-mount orientation?
Static self-locking applies regardless of mounting orientation. At ratios of 1/300+, dual-stage self-locking prevents static back-driving. For dynamic hanging load holding, install a mechanical brake as a safety supplement — do not rely on self-locking as primary safety hold.
▶ What torque arm length is recommended for WPEKA shaft-mount?
Calculate arm force = (output torque × 2 safety factor) ÷ arm length. Standard 300mm arms suit sizes up to 100–155; 450mm arms for 120–175 and above. The arm anchor bolt must withstand the reaction force in shear. Custom arm lengths can be calculated for specific installation geometries.
