Inverted drive configurations — where the output shaft must point downward to connect to below-floor equipment, hanging conveyor drives, or gravity-feed systems — are notoriously difficult to achieve cleanly with horizontal-output gearboxes. Adaptor stages add components, alignment errors, and maintenance complexity. The WPX Single Speed Cast Iron Worm Gearbox is purpose-engineered with X-type vertical downward output, delivering the required output direction directly without intermediary components. This makes the WPX the first-choice specification for gravity-assisted conveyor drives, below-floor mixer drives, and inverted automation equipment where the load hangs below the gearbox.

■ X-Type Vertical Downward Output — Factory-Engineered Configuration

The WPX output shaft exits vertically downward, with oil seals rated for the hydrostatic pressure of the oil bath acting on the seal from above — a fundamentally different seal specification than horizontal output seals.

■ Downward-Pressure Output Seal — Long-Life Oil Containment

Vertical downward seals must resist oil pressure from above (oil resting on the seal lip). The WPX uses premium double-lip seals with adequate radial spring force to maintain containment under continuous downward static oil pressure.

■ Bilateral Horizontal Input — Standard Motor Connection

WPX input shaft is horizontal and bilateral, accepting standard motor couplings from either side. The horizontal input/vertical output 90° relationship is inherent to the worm gear geometry.

■ FC20+ Cast Iron Housing — No Deformation Under Hanging Loads

When load components hang from the WPX output shaft, the downward force creates sustained axial shaft loads. FC20+ cast iron housing rigidity prevents housing deflection that would misalign the output shaft bearings.

■ Oil Fill Level Adjusted for X-Orientation

The WPX oil fill level specification differs from standard horizontal orientations. The X-type configuration places the worm mesh at a different depth relative to the oil bath — the specific fill quantity for each size is documented in the installation guide.

■ 6 Shaft Direction Variants (A–F)

Like the WPO, the WPX provides six shaft direction configurations covering different input-to-output angular relationships and left/right input positions to accommodate diverse installation geometries.

⚊ Below-Floor Conveyor Drive Systems

Underground conveyor drives, basement-level equipment, and sub-floor drive stations all require downward output shaft orientation. The WPX provides this directly, eliminating the right-angle head adaptor chain common in field-adapted solutions.

☵ Hanging & Inverted Mixer Drives

Mixers installed in elevated positions where the agitator hangs below the gearbox (inverted mounting) use the WPX output shaft to directly drive the downward-hanging agitator shaft.

⚒ Gravity-Feed Screw Dispensers

Gravity-feed auger dispensers and bulk solid feeders with downward discharge screws require a vertical downward output drive. The WPX provides rated torque in this orientation with proper oil seal performance.

⚔ Elevated Drive Stations — Cable & Chain Systems

Cable winch systems where the drive sits above and the cable hangs below, and chain drive systems where the drive sprocket hangs downward, both benefit from the WPX downward output orientation.

Overhead power-and-free conveyor systems with drive units at track level require downward output shafts to connect to the conveyor chain below. The WPX provides this without modification.

Every unit undergoes: Noise test (below 68 dB(A) at rated load), Oil leak test (30-minute pressurisation), and Torque transmission test (output torque within ±5% of rated). Failed units are reworked — not shipped.

✎ FC20+ Material Certification

Housing castings are verified by material test certificates for FC20 grade (220 MPa minimum tensile strength). Hardness testing (160–200 HB) and ultrasonic testing for internal defects are performed on size 135 and above.
