About Ever-power

Ever-power is a specialist supplier of worm gear reduction units serving industrial buyers across Australia. Our range spans aluminium NMRV series reducers, heavy-duty cast iron WP series, and hygienic stainless steel SS304 gearboxes — all manufactured to ISO9001 quality standards with CE conformity documentation available.

We work with maintenance engineers, OEM equipment builders and procurement teams to specify the right worm reducer for every duty — from small conveyor drives to high-torque mining applications requiring double-stage reduction ratios beyond 1000:1.

Learn about Ever-power

What Is a Worm Gearbox and Why Does It Matter?

A worm gearbox — also referred to as a worm gear reducer, worm drive gearbox or worm wheel speed reducer — is a type of right-angle gear unit in which a helical worm shaft meshes with a worm wheel to transmit torque between non-intersecting, perpendicular axes. The result is smooth, quiet speed reduction with high gear ratios achievable in a single compact stage.

The geometry of the worm mesh creates a natural self-locking characteristic: when the gear ratio exceeds approximately 25:1, the drive cannot be back-driven by the load. This makes worm gearboxes the preferred solution for inclined conveyors, valve actuators and hoisting equipment where load holding without a separate brake is required.

Key performance parameters

  • Gear ratio range: single-stage 5:1 to 100:1; double-stage up to 3600:1
  • Transmission efficiency: typically 60% to 90% depending on ratio and worm lead angle
  • Output torque: from under 50 Nm (NMRV025) to over 2700 Nm (WPA250)
  • Thermal power rating: a critical design parameter for continuous-duty applications
  • Centre distance: the primary dimensional reference for all WP and NMRV series sizes

Choosing between single and double stage

Single-stage worm reducers cover the ratio range most applications require. When output speeds below approximately 30 rpm are needed — or when torque multiplication beyond what a single worm pair can deliver efficiently is required — a double-stage unit such as the WPE or WPWE series is the correct selection. Double-stage units achieve ratios from 100:1 to 3600:1 in a single gearbox housing, eliminating the need to chain two separate gearboxes in series.

Aluminium, Cast Iron or Stainless Steel — Which Series Is Right for Your Application?

The correct housing material is determined by load, environment and hygiene requirements — not price alone. Selecting the wrong material series is one of the most common causes of premature gearbox failure in Australian industrial applications.

Aluminium NMRV series

The die-cast aluminium housing of the NMRV range provides a favourable strength-to-weight ratio, good natural heat dissipation and adequate corrosion resistance for most indoor industrial environments. With input power up to 15 kW and a size range from 025 to 150, the NMRV is the standard specification for packaging machinery, light conveyor systems, textile equipment and general-purpose automation.

Cast iron WP series

Cast iron provides superior rigidity and vibration damping compared to aluminium, making the WP series the correct choice for shock-load applications, heavy continuous duty and outdoor installations. The WP range extends to size 250 with output torques exceeding 2700 Nm. The cast iron housing also provides better sealing retention under high radial loads — important in mining and quarrying applications where axle loads from belt pulley overhang are significant.

Stainless steel SSRV, SSVF and SSGM series

Where washdown with cleaning chemicals, contact with food products or operation in a humid marine environment is required, stainless steel is the correct housing material. Our SSRV units use precision-cast SS304 housings dimensionally compatible with NMRV — enabling a direct upgrade without machine redesign. The SSVF series provides a compact VF-style right-angle form factor for space-constrained installations. The SSGM series takes hygiene further with six-face machined housings, eliminating recesses where bacteria can accumulate, meeting the most stringent Australian food processing standards.

★★★★★

We replaced three failed European worm reducers on our grain conveyor with WPDA80 units. The dimensional drawings were accurate, installation was straightforward, and the units have run continuously without issue for over eight months.

J. Morrison
Maintenance Engineer — Queensland grain handling facility
★★★★★

The SSRV series was exactly what we needed for our CIP-validated filling line. Stainless throughout, correct reduction ratio off the shelf, and the technical team responded to our engineering queries within the same business day.

S. Chen
Process Engineer — Victorian beverage manufacturer
★★★★★

We specified WPEA double-stage units for a low-speed agitator project in Western Australia. The 1/400 ratio was available off catalogue, torque tables were provided upfront, and the units arrived well-packaged with all certification documents.
