Universal W-Body Structure

WPWA universal cast iron worm gearbox structure

■ Universal W-Body Housing
The WPW-series universal housing is manufactured as a single FC20+ grey cast iron casting with bore positions, keyway orientations, and oil channels configured for the selected shaft direction. All 5 shaft direction configurations (A/B/C/D/E) use the same casting geometry with specific machining per configuration.
■ Worm Shaft
Hardened 20CrMnTi steel worm shaft with case-hardened tooth flanks (55–60 HRC). The worm shaft and its bearings are selected for the specific input orientation of the model — A-type (below), S-type (overhead), or bilateral — ensuring rated bearing life in the correct load direction.
■ Worm Wheel
Tin-bronze ZCuSn10Pb1 alloy worm wheel machined to mesh precisely with the hardened worm shaft. The bronze material provides excellent anti-seizure properties and wear-in characteristics for the worm gear mesh.
■ Output Shaft & Seal
Output shaft in quenched-and-tempered steel with double-lip oil seals rated for the specific output orientation (horizontal, vertical upward O-type, vertical downward X-type, side T-type, or extended V-type). Seal selection matches the hydrostatic pressure requirements of the installed orientation.
■ Oil System
Single-stage oil bath lubrication. Oil fill port, oil gauge, vent plug, and drain plug are positioned for the selected shaft direction configuration. Fill quantities are specified per configuration in the installation guide — do not use generic fill values across configurations.
■ Foot-Mount Base
FC20+ cast iron foot-mount base integrated with the housing casting. Four mounting holes for B3 foot mounting. The base orientation is fixed for the selected shaft direction configuration. For shaft-mount (hollow bore) applications, the torque arm boss provides housing restraint.

Core Features & Benefits

■ A-Type Input (Below) + Universal W-Body: Standard Input, Universal Housing

The WPWA provides the familiar below-entry input shaft geometry (standard for horizontal worm gearbox installations) in the WPW-series universal body, adding multi-position mounting capability to this standard configuration.

■ 5 Shaft Direction Configurations for A-Input Geometry

All 5 WPW shaft direction configurations (A–E) are available with the A-type input, allowing the below-entry motor position to be combined with diverse output shaft directions and housing mounting orientations.

■ Full WP Ratio Range 1/5–1/60

All standard worm ratios are available in the WPWA across all 5 shaft direction configurations — no ratio restrictions for the A-input universal housing.

■ FC20+ Cast Iron — Same Standard as WP Series

The WPW universal body maintains theFC20+ grey cast iron specification of the standard WP series housings. Universal mounting capability does not compromise material quality.

■ Output Torques up to 4,796 Nm (Size 250)

The WPWA provides the full WP series output torque range through the universal body with A-type input configuration.

■ ISO 9001:2000 + CE — Full Certification

Full ISO 9001:2000 quality management and CE marking for all WPWA configurations and sizes.

Quality Control & Certifications

Ever-power manufacturing facility

✎ ISO 9001:2000 Certified

Every WPWA is manufactured, assembled, and tested under ISO 9001:2000 quality management. Our factory was among the first in this product category to achieve this certification.

✎ CE Marking

Full CE marking confirms compliance with EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC — covering safety, design standards, and manufacturing quality for all WPW-series universal configurations.

✎ Pre-Shipment Testing

Noise test (below 72 dB(A) at rated load), oil leak test (30-minute pressurisation), torque transmission test (output torque within ±5% of rated). Failed units are reworked — not shipped.

✎ Universal Configuration Quality

Each shaft direction configuration (A–E) is verified dimensionally for correct bore position, keyway orientation, and oil channel routing before leaving our production line.

Frequently Asked Questions — WPWA

▶ What is the difference between WPWA and a standard WPA?
The WPA uses an orientation-specific housing optimised for the A-type input configuration. The WPWA uses the WPW universal body that supports all 5 shaft direction configurations. For a fixed A-type-only installation, WPA may be marginally more compact. For multi-orientation applications or standardised OEM product ranges, WPWA’s universal body provides flexibility not available in the orientation-specific WPA.
▶ Can the WPWA be converted to WPWS (S-type input) by reorienting?
No. The WPWA A-type input bore position is fixed in the housing during manufacture. To use an S-type (overhead) input, order the WPWS model. The shaft direction configurations (A–E) in the WPW universal body describe the output shaft orientation relative to the input shaft — they do not change the input shaft entry direction.
▶ Is the WPWA available with a hollow bore output?
Yes — the WPWKA adds K-type hollow bore output to the WPWA A-type input + universal body configuration. See the WPWKA product entry.
▶ What is the WPWA oil fill requirement?
Fill the WPWA oil chamber to the level specified for your shaft direction configuration (A–E) in the WPWA installation guide. Oil fill levels differ between shaft direction configurations due to different worm submersion depths. Use the orientation-specific fill quantity table, not a generic value.
▶ What is the maximum input shaft overhang load for the WPWA?
In WPWA A-type (below) input configuration, the motor coupling overhang moment is low because the A-type input has the coupling close to the housing bearing. Maximum coupling weight and overhang are specified in the cantilever load table. For standard close-coupled flexible couplings within the tabulated overhang, no additional bearing support is required.
