WPEDKA Double Speed Cast Iron Worm Gearbox

When a double-stage ultra-high-ratio drive must simultaneously provide a direct IEC motor connection and a hollow bore output shaft, the result is a three-way engineering specification that no combination of standard single-stage products can satisfy cleanly. The WPEDKA Double Speed Cast Iron Worm Gearbox delivers exactly this: D-type IEC motor flange, K-type hollow bore output, and double-stage worm reduction (1/200–1/900) in a single D-split cast iron housing. Pharmaceutical batch reactors, slow shaft-mounted OEM machinery, and specialty chemical process equipment where all three specifications are non-negotiable find the WPEDKA to be the definitive single-unit solution.

Double-Stage Product Structure

WPEDKA double speed worm gearbox internal structure

The WPE double-stage housing contains two complete worm gear stages in one precision-machined cast iron body, with two independent oil chambers:

■ Primary Stage (Input Side)
First worm shaft and bronze wheel — receives motor power, produces first reduction. Higher-speed, lower-torque stage optimised for input speed operating conditions.
■ Intermediate Shaft
Connects primary stage output to secondary stage input. Precision-machined, supported by C3-clearance bearings, transmits intermediate torque and speed between the two stages.
■ Secondary Stage (Output Side)
Second worm shaft and bronze wheel — lower speed, higher torque. Matched-pair manufacturing with primary stage ensures consistent inter-stage noise and efficiency throughout service life.
■ Dual Independent Oil Chambers
Two oil chambers — one per stage — each filled and monitored separately. Independent optimisation of lubrication viscosity and fill level per stage is a key advantage over two-gearbox cascade arrangements.
■ Air Vents & Oil Gauges (×2)
Two air vents and two oil gauges — one per chamber — provide independent pressure management and oil level monitoring for each stage throughout operation.
■ FC20+ Dual-Chamber Housing
Single FC20+ cast iron casting forms both chambers with no gaskets between them. Monolithic rigidity prevents inter-chamber flex that could misalign intermediate shaft bearings.

Core Features & Benefits

■ Triple Integration: D-IEC Flange + K Hollow Bore + Double-Stage

The WPEDKA is the double-stage counterpart to the single-stage WPDKA — all three features carried to the WPE platform. Two components (adaptor plate, coupling) eliminated from both motor and output sides simultaneously.

■ D-Split Housing: All Three Features Maintainable In Situ

Despite three combined features, the D-split provides full in-situ maintenance access. Remove housing cover: access both worm stages. Remove motor: inspect primary stage. Disconnect hollow bore shaft: inspect output bearing.

■ 9 Ratios from 1/200 to 1/900 — Full Selection Available

All nine ratio steps available, covering output speeds 7.5 RPM (1/200) down to 1.67 RPM (1/900) from a 1,500 RPM motor. For the hollow bore output, the driven shaft rotates within this range based on ratio selection.

■ IEC Frame Range: M8 to M16 Flange Bolts

Size 40–70 (M8): 56 frame (0.12 kW). Size 155–250 (M16): up to 315 frame (5.5+ kW). The full IEC frame range for slow industrial process drives is covered by the WPEDKA size range.

■ Hollow Bore H7 Tolerance Throughout Double-Stage Size Range

K-type hollow bore maintained at H7 tolerance with standard GB/T 1095 keyway dimensions across all WPEDKA sizes — ensuring driven shaft fit consistency even at extreme output torques.

■ Zero External Couplings — Both Input and Output Sides

Motor connects directly to D-IEC flange (no input coupling). Driven shaft inserts into K hollow bore (no output coupling). The WPEDKA operates with zero external coupling hardware on either side.

Industry Applications — WPEDKA

WP double speed cast iron worm gearboxes

Pharmaceutical Batch Reactor Shaft Drives

Batch reactors requiring (1) IEC motor direct mount, (2) hollow bore onto agitator shaft, (3) ultra-low agitation speed (1–5 RPM) — the WPEDKA satisfies all three in one GMP-compatible cast iron unit.

Specialty Chemical Slow Mixers

Sigma mixers, kneaders, and planetary ball mills requiring hollow bore shaft connection, IEC direct motor mount, and ratios above 1/60 are exactly addressed by the WPEDKA.

OEM Motor-Shaft Slow Drives

OEM continuous process plants where the machine design calls for motor-direct (IEC flange) and shaft-mount output (hollow bore) at extreme ratios use the WPEDKA from a single standard catalogue unit.

Very Slow Motorised Conveyor Head Shaft Drives

Very slow motorised conveyor head shaft drives (hollow bore onto head shaft, motor IEC direct) in drying, cooling, and curing conveyor applications find the WPEDKA’s triple-feature design exactly matched.

Hygienic Food Processing — Slow Motorised Shaft

Food processing vessels requiring hygienic drive design (minimal coupling hardware), IEC motor direct mount, hollow shaft connection, and ratios beyond 1/60 — bread proofer drives, pasta extruder feeds — specify the WPEDKA.

Quality Control & Certifications

Ever-power cast iron worm gearbox manufacturing facility

✎ ISO 9001:2000 Certified

Every WPEDKA is manufactured, assembled, and tested under the ISO 9001:2000 quality management framework. We were among the first in our industry category to achieve this certification.

✎ CE Marking

Full CE marking confirms compliance with EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC — covering safety, design standards, and manufacturing quality for mechanical power transmission equipment including double-stage worm gearboxes.

✎ Pre-Shipment Testing (Every Unit)

Noise test (below 72 dB(A) at rated load), oil leak test (30-minute pressurisation, both chambers), torque transmission test (output torque within ±5% of rated). Failed units are reworked — not shipped.

✎ Matched-Pair Manufacturing

Both worm wheel sets for each double-stage unit are manufactured in the same production batch, ensuring tooth profile consistency between primary and secondary stages. This matched-pair quality assurance is unique to our double-stage production process.

Frequently Asked Questions — WPEDKA

▶ Is the WPEDKA available with food-grade oil pre-filled?
The WPEDKA is normally shipped dry. For food-adjacent applications, specify NSF H1 food-grade ISO VG 220 or VG 320 when ordering. Fill on-site per the installation guide’s orientation-specific fill levels for both chambers.
▶ How does adding K hollow bore affect rated output torque versus WPEDA?
The WPEDKA hollow bore is rated for identical output torque as the WPEDA solid output shaft for the same size combination. The hollow bore wall thickness is designed to transmit the full rated torque via the keyway. No torque derating for the K hollow bore.
▶ Can the WPEDKA hollow bore accommodate splined shafts?
Standard WPEDKA uses GB/T 1095 keyway profile. For splined shaft compatibility, a custom bore with spline profile is available as an OEM option. Contact our engineering team with the spline specification (tooth count, pitch, pressure angle) for a quotation.
▶ What is the maximum operating angle for the WPEDKA?
Designed for horizontal foot-mount (base horizontal). Tilt angles up to ±15° are acceptable without oil system modification. Beyond ±15°, contact our applications team — oil fill levels and vent/fill port positions may need adjustment for proper dual-chamber lubrication.
▶ Can WPEDKA gearboxes be stacked for ratios beyond 1/900?
Two WPEDKA units cannot be directly stacked as the output is a hollow bore, not a solid output shaft for a second input. For ratios beyond 1/900, contact our engineering team for custom multi-stage arrangements or consider VFD speed reduction to bring input speed below 1,500 RPM.
